According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
FRISCO – The Rangers were involved in a three-team trade Friday night.
The Rangers sent right-handed starter Juan Dominguez to the Oakland Athletics, the Cubs sent left-hander John Koronka to the Rangers, and the A’s sent
left-hander John Rheinecker to the Rangers and infielder Freddie Bynum to the Cubs.
With right-hander Adam Eaton headed to the disabled list, Koronka will immediately move into the Rangers’ rotation. He will likely pitch Friday
against the Detroit Tigers in the fifth game of the season. Koronka, 25, went 1-2 with a 7.47 ERA in 15 2/3 innings last year for the Cubs. He was
formerly in the Rangers organization.
Dominguez, 25, was the Rangers’ minor league pitcher of the year in 2003. He is 5-10 with a 4.60 ERA in his career. However, he had been unreliable
off the field, and the Rangers had tired of dealing with his immaturity problems.
Rheinecker will go to Triple A Oklahoma.

This gives Beane more flexibility in how he decides to deal with the Zito situation, right?

scouting report on Dominguez, Mogul? I understand he's a power lefty, what's the 411?
Do we have a Caribean Kazmir on our hands here, or a Mestizo Mulder?

Actually, that's not his real name. His real name is actually Jairo Garcia.

You might remember him pitching against the A's twice last September. The first time, Oakland beat him up pretty badly, hitting 3 homers and scoring
8 runs (5 earned) in just 3 1/3 innings; however, the second time, Dominguez had much better success, allowing just 2 runs over 7 1/3 and getting the
win. These two starts fell into an 8-start stretch over which Dominguez posted a 3.04 ERA (yes, including the first game against Oakland) and logged
over 50 innings.....not too shabby.
Juan is going to turn 26 in less than seven weeks and apparently lost the competition for the fifth spot in the Texas rotation by posting an 8.44 ERA;
in fact, he started against the A's last Tuesday and gave up four runs - all earned - in four innings pitched.
The A's like his fastball (~94 MPH) but consider his changeup to be his strikeout pitch. He'll be starting the year in Sacramento (with Kielty!
did you see that?).....
One source notes that the A's "second-string rotation" of Saarloos, Kennedy, Dominguez, Brad Halsey, and Chad Gaudin is probably better than Tampa
Bay's one through five.....

Thanks for the refresher. I read in BP that due to his lack of a consistant/viable third pitch, that Juan might be destined for the bullpen, where he
could be a true power lefty stud. Maybe the A's coaches in Oakland and Sactown will help him develop that all important third pitch to major league
caliber and he will be a latin Randy Johnson. Anyway you put it, I like this trade. Even if he's relegated to the bullpen, Dominguez has the
potential to be an impact player, with top shelf stuff. Bynum was playing way above his head this spring, and he was feasting on green spring
training pitching. His value was as high as it would ever be. Getting a guy like Dominguez who could either turn out to be a great number 3 or 4
starter or Oakland's Mike Gonzalez out of the bullpen for Bynum and a career soft tossing orginization guy like Rheinecker is a steal. I like this
deal a lot, even if Dominguez does have some baggage. I'm hoping he lands somewhere between Johan Santana and Eric Milton...preferably closer to
the Santana end of the spectrum.

Just a hunch here, but my guess is that the A's face a losing battle in trying to turn Dominquez into an even serviceable MLB lefty, let alone a
stud.

Trade is a steal for the A's. If/When Dominguez gets things figured out on a consistent basis, he's a very viable, solid, and potentially
dominating major league starter.
This trade was just the beginning in a series of questionable moves the Rangers have made this week.
Note to any MLB GM: if Billy Beane is looking to acquire one of your players, you may want to hold onto them because odds are he's seeing something
in them that you aren't. Very much akin to the poker analogy of if you sit down at the table and in the first five minutes can't identify a sucker,
then the sucker is you.

Dominguez got rocked for 6 runs - all earned - in 2 2/3 last night vs. Portland.....6 hits allowed (2 of them homers), four walks, and two strikeouts.

In Tacoma last night, Dominguez threw five innings of one-hit ball, walking three, striking out four, and allowing no runs. He wasn't all that
efficient (86 pitches) but he certainly was effective.

Dominguez......yikes. He's went tonight for the River Cats and was again ineffective, throwing 110 pitches in 6 innings and allowing 6 runs and 3
home runs.
That's now - in 22 1/3 innings pitched - 28 hits, 17 walks, 5 homers, 13 strikeouts, and 24 runs (23 earned) allowed.....

I "got to" see Dominguez for the first time in person last night and was not all impressed (for whatever that's worth).
He gave up five runs, seven hits and three walks while striking out only one in five innings and throwing 89 pitches, and there were a few really
solid defensive plays behind him that kept it from getting even worse. The two guys that followed him for the Cats allowed just two hits and two
walks in four innings while striking out five.
